Sigiriya has no railway station and no direct bus from the airport. By public transport you change in Dambulla (bus) or Habarana (train), so most arrivals go straight there by car — the classic first stop of a north-to-south loop.

Driving straight from the airport
The road goes via Mirigama, the open part of the Central Expressway to Kurunegala, then the A6 via Dambulla. The last stretch is a two-lane country road; elephants crossing near Habarana at dusk are a real thing, so drivers prefer not to rush it at night.
