The road
Via Minuwangoda to Mirigama, the Central Expressway (E04) north to Kurunegala, then the A6 through Dambulla. Good tarmac all the way; the last hour is two-lane country road.
Worth stopping
- Dambulla cave temple (20 km before Sigiriya), about 1 hour, ticket around Rs 3,000 for foreigners.
- Kurunegala rest stops and roadside fruit stalls.
Good to know
- Leave Negombo at 8:00 and you can do Dambulla on the way and still climb Pidurangala for sunset.
